These are directly from smashboards, and because I have nothing to do till my 4pm class for wednesday only, I decided to have a nice little counterpoint with the fanboys of smashboards, marking my first return to reading the site for what, 5 months or so?? From King Melee; Indeed, Items seem to be more of a cheap skilless tactic than a tactic that shows true skill My response; I am going to refer to the document in the files that our owner, Stealth Yoshi wrote. Items are not skill devoid. This has been proven time and time again in Melee here in Cajon. How is me timing a item throw just right to prevent you from getting back on the egde skill- less, or you dodging a item on the comeback to the edge skilless by ducking a tad lower than usual then coming back with a triple jump???? Any newbie can chuck items off the edge at will, its the masters that combine the right attacks and use the item for that extra little edge that makes the kill. And by the way, just because items appear randomly doesnt mean they are unfair. Have you learned how to item catch??? Oh yeah, you probably dont because you refuse to play with items on. At the very least you could learn to DOWN DODGE the items or minimum put up your shield. Unbelievable, but thats right, items are a cheap skillless tactic that cant be avoided, my bad. From Old School; My feeling is that the use of items generally makes the game more laid back and not as serious My response; This makes me lose my faith in humanity. Ok, last time I checked, having items in the game doesn't make my rivalry with Cryofang any less of a match, or my fights with Stealth any less competitive. But then again of course, you are right old school, I just dont care about the win column because those items are in there!!! My matches are not serious just because of items! From Zero EXE; Items, AKA 'n00b crutches' My response; I love how you guys at smashboards think that items are used by noob's as a crutch. Refer to argument one, learning to defend with items makes you better as an attacker with items. If I catch the bomb you just threw at me, You are going to pay. Simple. Items dont cost you the match, your skill does. Items are not replacements for your hard work and skill. Next idiot please. From Chesterr01; Well W.J., no items is bringing what you can do with your own character. No help from nobody, nothing((inferring items are extra advantage help)) My response; Last time I checked, an item isnt helping me unless I use it properly. I am not getting "help" from an item, you can only determine your performance by using items correctly. Seriously, this is getting tiring. As for the bringing what I can do with my character thing, items are merely another option to enhance your character's abilites by adding more attack options by swapping others. Remember, you lose the ability to use smash attacks and throw when grabbing an item, and you swap that for the ability to toss the item or use it. So really, I am merely swapping my attack options, which is not having something "help me out", I am merely deciding to go a different attack route. True, item appear randomly, but remember that they can be defended easily with enough experience and practice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Seriously, I am laughing so hard right now, I am crying in the lab. Human beings are certaintly unique. In short, my argument is items were meant to be there because they add a layer of depth that deepens the gameplay despite the random factor coming into play. If you think I am wrong, post the no items rhetoric right here. I cant wait to hear the reasons for having items off. I may be wrong, but I dont think so this time. Cube
